The Origin Story of Mellow Grounds Coffee Lounge

It all began with a shared love for good coffee, community, and the joy of bringing people together. As a husband and wife team, we have always believed in the power of small, meaningful moments—the kind that happen over a cup of coffee. For years, we dreamed of creating a space where people could slow down, connect, and experience something special with every sip.

Our journey started while traveling to the Pacific Northwest from southern California and visiting one-off unique cozy coffee shops and immersing ourselves in the coffee culture. After 10 long years of traveling back and forth we eventually moved there.

Our stay lasted a couple of years before continuing the journey to Charlston, South Carolina where we spent more time immersing ourselves in the culture there. From the first trip on our journey, we knew we were gaining something worth sharing. It wasn’t just about the coffee—it was about creating experiences. We wanted to bring that warmth and hospitality to Scottsboro, to create a place where everyone felt welcome, whether it was a bustling morning crowd, or an afternoon break, or a quiet relaxing chat.

The idea of opening a coffee shop took root during long talks about our shared vision for the future. We both imagined moving to a small town and always felt that we wanted more of a sense of connection and belonging that comes from being a part of a tight-knit community. In Scottsboro, we saw the potential to create something special—a place that would blend the spirit of this town with the rich, diverse world of coffee.

With determination and a little bit of courage, we took the leap, poured our hearts into the business, and are opening our doors to you, our neighbors and friends. From locally sourced beans and delicious pastries, every detail of our shop is designed with care. We believe that good coffee isn’t just about the beans; it’s about the people we serve and the connections we build.

Our goal is simple: to bring a little joy to your day, whether you're stopping by for your first cup in the morning or meeting friends for an afternoon chat.
